My name is Amanda and I've been creating videos for about 30yrs. My first venture into film making began as a 12yr old when my parents enrolled me a holiday course at the Children's Television Foundation. Since then, I've made films as a student at the Victorian College of the Arts and produced a number works for festivals and exhibitions.
In 2015 my father had a mild stroke. I'd been asking him to write his life story for years at that point and he hadn't started. Taking matters into my own hands, I hired some lights, sat him and my mother down and filmed them telling their life stories. Dad's gone now and my mother is now in care with advanced dementia. If I hadn't sat them down and made them tell their stories when I did, all their memories would have been lost. Instead, I have their whole memoir, their voice and their gestures recorded for our future descendants. I'm so glad I did it.
I really enjoy capturing peoples' memoirs, wandering through times and places made unique by those that lived it. It's a privilege to be trusted with such personal histories.
